The New Economy Movement (NEM) is set to launch in November. NEM is not just another peer-to-peer cryptocurrency in the lineage of Bitcoin. It is an innovative way to utilize blockchain technology to create a decentralized economy. It has a fair distribution model with important advancements in the underlying technology, including the Proof-of-Importance (PoI) algorithm, rule-based accounts (smart contracts), an encrypted messaging solution and Eigentrust++ reputation system. The NEM Beta shall go live in September and more than 12 developers are working tirelessly to roll out the initial NEMecosystem by November.

As more people make their purchases online, banks, credit card companies and tech companies are all hoping to capitalize on the quickly expanding business of mobile and online payments. Bitcoin rose this year as the most prominent virtual cash system, storing its users’ cash in computer files. The price of Bitcoin shares soared to over $1,240 the day after Thanksgiving (a 9,000% gain for the year), and its new virtual currency may one day challenge the traditional payment systems of big credit card companies and banks.

Crypto currency has taken the world by storm, quickly transforming from an underground niche to a news-headlining, digital stock market on steroids with investors begging to buy in. Bitcoin announced itself to the world with a meteoric rise to $266 per coin. However, this was quickly followed by a spectacular fall to $60. Since then the market has calmed down and settled on a price around the $80 mark.
