Bitcoin was revolutionary when it was created. The idea behind "mining" coins as a way to validate transactions and at the same time reward early adopters was brilliant. It quickly strengthened the network and took care of distributing coins to interested parties. Mined coins on the network are distributed to whomever presents the solution first. As soon as it got competitive, people started mining pools whereby the pool instead presents the winning solution to the network, receives the reward, and redistributes to everyone in the pool. Most people prefer this since they'll at least receive something.

Bitcoin rose this year as the most prominent virtual cash system, storing its users’ cash in computer files. The price of Bitcoin shares soared to over $1,240 the day after Thanksgiving (a 9,000% gain for the year), and its new virtual currency may one day challenge the traditional payment systems of big credit card companies and banks.

Instead of embracing Bitcoin, PayPal could create their own payment processing system using the source code used to create Bitcoin. The idea of wallets, fast confirmations of transactions, anonymity of the users will be preserved. Instead of a coin payment to the miners, offer to pay them in dollars.

Crypto currency has taken the world by storm, quickly transforming from an underground niche to a news-headlining, digital stock market on steroids with investors begging to buy in. Bitcoin announced itself to the world with a meteoric rise to $266 per coin. However, this was quickly followed by a spectacular fall to $60. Since then the market has calmed down and settled on a price around the $80 mark.
