Collaborative Economy Market Contraction Signals Maturity | Web Strategy by Jeremiah Owyang | Digital Business

Collaborative Economy Market Contraction Signals Maturity | Web Strategy by Jeremiah Owyang | Digital Business | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

Too many damn startups are doing the same damn thing. Lisa Gansky’s massive directory of startups in this space tallies at a whopping 9,703 startups. In our latest Honeycomb 3.0, we reviewed 450 startups, but only about 250 made the cut. We found many startups doing the exact same thing as others, often in the same regional area! Take San Francisco’s recent valet app market, for example: there’s Zirx, Luxe, and Carbon all fighting for me to download their app so they can park my car in the city’s insane downtown area.

Commons Collaborative Economies: Policies, Technologies and City for the People - Policy & FLOSS for the Commons

We invite you to participate in the forthcoming international workshop “Commons Collaborative Economies: Policies, Technologies and City for the People” in Barcelona, March 11-13. This event is organized by the P2Pvalue project in collaboration with the Barcelona municipality.

This interdisciplinary workshop will follow up the previous workshop FLOSS4P2P, this time expanding the focus to policy. It will provide an opportunity for policy people to interact with the technical teams of Free/Libre/Open Source Software (FLOSS) platforms for commons-based peer production communities, and to get a deep dive into how to promote the commons approach to collaborative economy from institutions. We have three aims:

1) Highlight the relevance of the commons-oriented model within the collaborative economy

2) Build policy recommendations for the European Commission concerning the regulation of the collaborative economy

3) Provide technical guidelines to build software platforms for collaborative communities.

The workshop will include panels on relevant topics, unconference dynamic spaces, a hackathon, and working groups to draft the mentioned policy and technical documents.

We welcome proposals for:

- Lightning talks (2m): summarise your idea & receive feedback from the audience

- Leading Discussion (20-30m): gather those interested in your project/tech/policy/research, introduce it to the group, and discuss

- Participatory sessions (30m-1h): engage the interdisciplinary attendees in co-creating, playing or creative dynamic sessions

Please email: info@dimmons.net with your proposals, deadline Feb 29.

A Collaborative Economy for the Common Good

A Collaborative Economy for the Common Good | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

This week, we are launching new research from Pat Conaty which explores a new economic strategy for Wales against the backdrop of uneven growth and imbalanced recovery from the downturn across the UK. The report draws on best practice and lessons from international case studies and what is currently emerging in Wales to develop the Collaborative Economy Model – an economic and regeneration strategy developed specifically for Wales.

EU policy making: new guidelines for the collaborative economy

EU policy making: new guidelines for the collaborative economy | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

In a communication published earlier this month, the European Commission policy makers explain the key regulatory issues at hand and provide policy  guidelines for member states. A short spoiler: it focusses on topics that  most of us find dry and even boring. But it is worthwhile understanding the main questions and suggestions raised by the Commission because they will
determine the political discourse in the future and therefore affect stakeholders in the collaborative economy. That is why Paula summarizes the most important points for you as short and spicy as possible. Read more...

The Impact of the Collaborative Economy on the Labour Market | Centre for European Policy Studies

The Impact of the Collaborative Economy on the Labour Market | Centre for European Policy Studies | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

The digitalisation of work is creating new ways of intermediating work, with for example platforms intermediating work between individuals online. These so-called online collaborative platforms have the potential to fundamentally change the labour market, but for the moment, with an estimated 100,000 active workers or 0.05% of total employees in the EU, they do not seem to have a large impact on the offline/traditional labour market or the create/destroy impetus.
