Economic Game-Change: From Ownership To Access - Forbes

We live in an exceptional moment in history. Gigantic changes are under way in society. Everything we do is being re-invented—how we live, how we work, how we play, how we communicate, even how we think and how we feel.

Eli Levine's curator insight, May 3, 2014 7:46 PM

While I'm not as optimistic about all the changes that this article describes, I honestly think that it's an interesting paradigm shift to think in terms of increasing access rather than increasing ownership.

I'd still like to know what role profit plays in all of this and how it is distributed within the companies.  After all, the best way to increase access is to pay people decently, so they can afford goods and services.  There's only so much that a person can have in this lifetime, let alone, only so much they need to really be happy.

Will be keeping an eye on this phenomenon as it develops.

Think about it.

The Sharing Economy Is Here to Stay - Madison Magazine - January 2014 | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

The sharing economy refers to a new kind of economic model where underutilized products and assets—think cars, apartment or home space and even one’s time—are shared with others, valuing access to these goods over ownership. In Madison, early traces of the sharing economy can be seen in our long history of cooperatives.

Welcome to the 'Company as a Service' Paradigm

Welcome to the 'Company as a Service' Paradigm | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

The advertising age had a good run, from the birth of mass media until the point it went social. Then consumers began to talk back online--in Amazon reviews, Yelp ratings, and Facebook posts--and the customer experience age was born. Today snarky comments are the least of marketers' worries, as we enter what the Altimeter Group calls "the collaborative era."

It all started about a year ago, when my husband and I got struck by a serious bout of travel lust and decided to step out of the Silicon Valley rat race for a while to wander the globe and explore what it was like to live in different parts of the world.
