We drink. We doze. We text. In the US, 30,000 people die from automobile accidents every year.(Source) Traffic crashes are the primary cause of death worldwide for people aged 15-24, (Source) and during a crash, 40% of drivers never even hit the brakes. (Source)We’re flawed organisms, barreling around at high speeds in vessels covered in glass, metal, distraction, and death. This is one of Google’s "moonshots" -- to remove human error from a job which, for the past hundred years, has been entirely human.

Nvidia touts $10,000 DIY robo-car brains, neural-net motorists in the cloud
Car Protection's curator insight, March 20, 2015 7:45 AM

Potentially worrying for driving lovers...

Richard Neto's curator insight, March 27, 2015 1:26 AM

In this engaging article written by Chris Williams, it talks about the increased interest over the automated cars segment and what it has to offer, with Nvidia and its invested interest in the market with the introduction of their "robo-car brains" technology. Tesla Motors boss Elon Musk expresses his excitement over the implementation of automated vehicles in his range, as well as concern with the advancements in Artificial Intelligence; and that if automated vehicles become a perfected art and deemed safer than human driven cars, will human interaction with cars be labeled as a thing of the past? If such a thing were to occur, what would it mean for car enthusiasts and car culture in general? Will they welcome the idea? I already know the answer to that one. I agree to some extent that this kind of technology will be of much benefit to society with for example; truck drivers, whom drive for long distances at one time to deliver goods across vast areas, with detrimental effects on their health, with regards to fatigue with is a major contributor to road incidents. However one could go as far to say that transportation companies would replace their whole fleet with autonomous driving trucks to alleviate of this issue therefore effectively putting those whom earn a living off transporting goods out of work. Just my 2 cents worth.

Craig Miller's curator insight, March 27, 2015 3:33 AM

Tesla Motors are looking to revolutionize the way people get from point A to point B, with self driving cars. Being claimed to be safer then human-driven cars, these cars could take over the industry. With already working prototypes of the car, they look promising to be the future of transport.
