I will participate at the poc21.cc event on August 20-22 and feel very honoured to be in the presence of so many pioneers. POC21 brings together open source makers that are inventing sustainable production and manufacturing. Here’s the description of the event, followed by a well-produced and must-see trailer: “Starting August 15th, POC21 innovation camp …
The very interesting Encommuns.org initiative which we presented here several times, is rooted in two open source third places, la Coroutine and Mutualab, but also in the annual ROUMICS conference, which is especially concerned with equiy and rights issues around internet and media infrastructure, i.e. promotes a civic understanding of the internet.
Five minute atmospherics of the FutureFest 2015 conference and festival organized by Nesta in London, and in which I participated. I’m intervening after the fourth minute.
This session brought together a mix of experts involved in global internet governance policy spaces to help bring greater clarity around Global Multistakeholder Meeting on the Future of Internet Governance (Net Mundial) and where internet governance will go after it. This dynamic panel aimed to clarify misconceptions about the event, what's at stake, and what internet governance might look like in the next 20 years. It brought together academics, advocates, government, and the private sector for a dynamic conversation with the broader digital rights community.
“Around a year and a half ago, a collaborative team began working on WikiHouse, an open source construction set. Its aim is to make it possible for anyone to design, share, download, adapt and ‘print’ out low-cost, high-performance, houses which are suited to their needs, and can be assembled quickly and without traditional construction skills: to slowly build a construction commons for the social economy, owned by everyone and accessible to anyone. Now being developed with a small community of collaborators around the world, the session will make a case for citizen-production of cities, and discuss some of the big practical challenges facing open production if it is to be genuinely disruptive.”
It's indeed a remarkable synthesis of where the P2P movement is at, and how it is both grappling with the tensions in the world and within the movements.

Gordon Cook has been kind enough to transcript Michel Bauwens’ presentation at last year’s Border’s to Cross Conference in Amsterdam. We’ve also included the video at the end for good measure, (so you can see Michel being “invited” offstage for going over his allotted time).
“Peer-to-Peer Finance and Crowdfunding are reaching momentum. Beyond Kickstarter, almost 3 billion dollars were raised in 2012 across 700+ platforms, double compared to the previous year. As the crowdfunding market matures, with clear verticals and burgeoning niche platforms adressing specific needs, this new way of raising money for creative, social and entrepreneurial projects is becoming more and more appealing, as an alternative to traditional financing.
“The mobility sector is undergoing a profound transformation. Urbanization, demographic changes and environmental factors are bringing on challenges, which are requiring governments and private transport services to rethink their approaches to mobility in an intermodal way. Mobility experts working in ridesharing, peer-to-peer carsharing and service design tell us their visions of the future of shared mobility.”
