A Critical Review by Brian Holmes of the "Network Society' book by Bauwens / Kostakis | P2P Foundation | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

“Thanks for this book, Michel and Vasilis. “Future Scenarios for a Collaborative Economy” is exceedingly timely and I would recommend it to anyone interested in the Commons specifically, or in political economy more generally. In response, I’ve written something in between a review and a letter to the authors. I address Michel because he posted it. Hopefully he will respond to a few of my comments!

P2P Foundation » Blog Archive » Working for a phase transition to an open commons-based knowledge society: the Poynder-Bauwens Interview | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

Continuing our coverage of FLOK Society’s recent “Buen Conocer” summit, we’re glad to present this special long-form conversation between Open Access chronicler Richard Poynder and Michel Bauwens, held just before the summit took place. The interview is specially noteworthy for being a very honest across-the-board examination of FLOK as a process, including both its virtues and the unavoidable pitfalls it has faced. Michel Bauwens on the pitfalls of start-up culture

Michel Bauwens on the pitfalls of start-up culture | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

I like to start with outlining the issue, the problem around the emergence of peer production within the current neoliberal capitalist form of society and economy that we have. We now have a technology which allows us to globally scale small group dynamics, and to create huge productive communities, self-organized around the collaborative production of knowledge, code, and design. But the key issue is that we are not able to live from that, right?

Fair.coop: Using Cryptocurrency to Bring Economic Justice to the World | P2P Foundation | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it
“Up until now, cryptocurrencies have held great potential, but it hasn’t always coincided with a practicality that would alleviate [social] ills. Certain elements such as bypassing the need for central banks are steps along the way, but there was something missing. A holistic social and economic system is urgently needed to address the inequalities inherent in the current system.”

Interviewed: Felipe Altenfelder of Fora do Eixo on Mutualizing Music | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

In Brazil, Fora do Eixo is a social experiment to provide music and culture to the public, and livelihoods to culture makers, by mutualizing the means of production for music. Fora do Eixo is occasionally the subject of vivid controversies in Brazil and it is, therefore, a good moment to have the views of one of the founders of this movement.

Why not think about the repurposing of unused Church property, for precisely the recreation of a moral and ethical economy? Why not create mechanisms for the creation of common hackerspaces, makerspaces, co-working spaces, where the common endeavours can take place in a meaningful and spiritualized space?
