Debating the Sharing Economy

Debating the Sharing Economy | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it
Editors Note: Below is sociologist Juliet Schor's insightful analysis of the sharing economy. She comes to an important conclusion, one that we at Shareable share -- we should be more aware of the sharing economy's exploitative side but not so cynical that we overlook its potential to create new businesses "that allocate resources more fairly, that are more democratically organized, that reduce eco-footprints, and that can bring people together in new ways." And importantly, that it will take a movement to shape it into a solution that addresses our biggest social, economic, and environmental challenges. -Neal Gorenflo

Tax Guide for Sharing Economy Micro-entrepreneurs - Shareable | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

Ah, tax season—that time of year when we dig out boxes of receipts, add up business mileage and, if we’re active in the sharing economy, wonder how on earth to handle taxes when it comes to room rentals, rideshares, crowdfunding donations and all that other good sharing stuff. In several aspects of the sharing economy, legislation lags behind what’s happening on the streets, in our neighborhoods, and in our homes, as we trying to apply dated rules to a new economy.
