In the book Wikinomics one of the small topics was about how mass collaboration(specifically the Open Source Movement) is not a sort of Socialism or Communism. The strongest argument in the book against this was about how by adding into the Commons, barriers are lowered to enter the market which results in more free-market competition. While the book’s argument focuses on why it’s different, I think there is merit in pointing out how the Open Source Movement is like Socialism and then restate the books argument in this context.
