DG Yes, this is the issue that seemed to speak to people the most when I was, for the last couple of months, talking about my debt book in New York. Basically every single person I talked to who is between the ages of 18 and 30 or 25 brought up student loan issues as being why don’t you organise something around that; something must be done. It seems to have really, profoundly affected the perspectives of an entire generation. I was hearing all these really dramatic stories; there’s one woman I talked to who works at a radical book store and trained to, she has a PhD, she was a literature student, always assumed she would be a professor. As it turns out she’s now working as an escort to pay off her student loan debt. It’s had an enormous affect on people’s lives
