Study Says Social Movements "Should Never Be Called a Twitter or Facebook ... - techPresident | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

A report on Digital Activism and Non-Violent Conflict was released this month by the Digital Activism Research Project. It found that the role of hacking and cybercrime in digital activism is grossly overstated by the media and that while Facebook and Twitter are the leading platforms for activism on a global scale, other tools do well on a smaller, regional scale. The study found no causation or correlation between specific tools and positive outcomes.

While it may well be important to have the top 100 influencers on any particular topic following you on Twitter or Facebook, it is not essential. You can make up for it by attracting, retaining, and activating everyone else. In short, anyone who shares her time, talent, and experience online is an important online influencer and potential brand ambassador for my clients.

Meet the Growth Hacking Wizard behind Facebook, Twitter and Quoras ... - Forbes

Meet the Growth Hacking Wizard behind Facebook, Twitter and Quoras ... - Forbes | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

7 years ago, when Facebook and Twitter were just getting started, the primary magic trick to high growth rates involved creating a product that connected people to people and people to content. Back then this type of network effect gave the Mark Zuckerbergs of the world unexpected primacy over old-fashioned tech titans like AOL and Microsoft. For the first time, the power to build a large user base was given to people who had very small budgets, and the ability to instantly generate billions in market value trumped the comparatively slow process of building a tech company one customer at a time.

Twitter flies from obscurity to the height of fame

Twitter flies from obscurity to the height of fame | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

When Twitter started seven years ago as an obscure medium for geeks, critics dismissed it as an exercise in narcissism. Some thought it would be as intriguing as watching people gaze at their bellybuttons. But it quickly matured into a worldwide messaging service used by everyone from heads of state to revolutionaries to companies trying to hawk products.

Lisa Nielsen: The Innovative Educator: Tweeting from Your Phone to Gain a Collective Intelligence on Topics of Importance

Lisa Nielsen: The Innovative Educator: Tweeting from Your Phone to Gain a Collective Intelligence on Topics of Importance | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

Twitter (www.twitter.com) is a great tool for schools to use to share interesting and relevant information with the student body, staff, parents and family. No software to download and even with just one teacher cell phone per class, contributions can be done and modeled anywhere, anytime. Twitter has become such a popular tool because it asks one question, "What's happening?" Answers must be under 140 characters in length and can be sent via mobile texting, instant message, or the web. Like texting, the beauty of Twitter's is that its core technology is a device agnostic system that lets the masses participate. Because of this, with just a cell phone in hand, Twitter makes it easy for folks to stay connected...even if all they have at their finger tips is sms.

Trolling does no harm? Think again - PC Pro

Trolling does no harm? Think again - PC Pro | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

David Graeber’s excellent paper, "Toward an anthropological theory of value", has a fascinating section about the ancient Maori and their world view, in which I found one item particularly provocative. That Maori custom of sticking the tongue out during their haka war dance, so familiar to all rugby fans, always strikes us as a gesture of cheekiness or insult, because that’s what it now means in most European cultures. However, this isn’t what it originally meant to the Maori: when aimed at an enemy during a battle it meant "you are meat, and I’m going to eat you", and true to their word, if they defeated you they may well have done so. For some reason, this put me in mind of internet trolls.

Valuing Twitter - Wall Street Pit

Valuing Twitter - Wall Street Pit | Peer2Politics | Scoop.it

A little more than a week ago, I posted my first take on Twitter and argued that even in the absence of financial information from the company (since the prospectus had not been filed yet), you could price the company. Based on prior transactions in the company (VC infusions and acquisitions) and the multiples of revenues/users for other companies in the space (the social media medley, as I called it), I argued that Twitter would be priced at about $12 billion by the bankers.
